What damage can moth and carpet beetles cause in my home?
They can cause considerable damage to clothes by leaving holes in your garments and bedding and also completely destroy carpets and rugs. Pantry moths will also contaminate stored dry foods such as flour and cereals.
What type of moths need to be eradicated?
The two most common types are clothes moths and pantry moths.
Can I stop moths from entering my home?
Try to keep your attic and loft spaces sealed with draft excluder and take a look at light fittings for spaces. Place some of our moth pheromone traps and diffusers in your wardrobes, closets, under beds etc. Regularly vacuum along edges of carpets and inside cupboards. Keep the cupboards and lofts free of clutter and store old clothes and carpets correctly.
Have I got a moth infestation?
Holes in your clothes, moth cases and webbing are all indicators of a moth infestation. Also moths themselves. In dried food, look for minute moth eggs, larvae and webbing.
How effective are moth deterrents?
Moth repellents like our own moth diffusers or cedar balls, lavender sachets, or mothballs won’t eradicate an infestation, but they will repel them.
What can I do to help with a clothes moth or carpet beetle infestation?
Take all your infested clothes and either wash in hot water, where appropriate or place in a plastic bag and freeze for 24 hours, to kill the eggs and larvae. Vacuum areas of infestation not forgetting to discard the vacuum bag or empty the bagless vacuum and dispense with away from the house.
And a pantry moth infestation?
Throw away and foods with evidence of an infestation, use a vacuum to remove eggs and larvae from cupboards and dispose of the vacuum bag. Make sure dried foods are stored in airtight containers not just the paper bag with a clip on.

If you catch an infestation quickly you may be able to eliminate yourself, but if the situation reoccurs it is better to seek professional advice.

Regular cleaning and vacuuming, storing clothes and foods in airtight containers and rotating clothes will all help towards keeping you moth free.

What part do moths play in our environment?
Clothes moths can be very beneficial to the environment in the wild because they help break down materials that would otherwise take longer to biodegrade. They eat owl pellets, old nests, and other materials. They may also help boost ecosystems and eat heavy metals.
